Is landlord responsible for bug problem in apt due to gaps in woodwork?
I’m having a major problem with pests in my apartment. Several rooms had some work done to them before I moved in. The floors were replaced as well as some appliances, fixtures, and tiling.
They left a number of gaps all through the woodwork in the kitchen and bathroom. For example, where the pipes from the sink and washer connection go down into the floor, there are quite sizable holes that the pipes feed into with nothing to seal them. There are cracks between the wood paneling and the tiled parts of the walls in both rooms. There are huge gaps between the baseboard of the cabinets and the dishwasher. These seem to lead almost directly to the crawl space under the house.
As a result, I am inundated with bugs and pests of all kinds. There are all kinds of weird beetles I’ve never seen before in the kitchen, slugs migrate into the shower, and even worse things. It’s really out of hand.
Is my landlord responsible for closing up these gaps?
He should take care of the holes. It is only reasonable that the holes be sealed.
