Does a bad fridge compressor relay lead to a bad compressor?

Purchased Maytag 4 years ago. 4 months ago, fridge stopped working. Repairman came and replaced the relay and overload for $400. Last week, fridge stopped working again. Same repair guy came out and said now the compressor died. Will need another $700 to repair. I would like to know if 4 months ago, he should have known and told me the compressor will not last very long and I should just get a new fridge at that time instead of paying $400 and then 4 months later, having to repair it again.

Yeah there is something fishy going on there.
