Do you have to have a vent above your stove by law?
Im looking at purchasing this home that had new kitchen appliances, but I noticed no air vent at all. Its an oven thats electric. Theres a huge light fixter where I would put an island vent. I just wont to know if its required to have in a home so that the owners can fix this problem and not me if I decide to buy. Thanks
Oh and it doewsnt have one next to it either like some do if the microwave is above it. Theres nothing.
Yes, required by bldg code.
However, some stovetops (meant for “islands”) have a co-planar vent build into the surface, so it doesn’t have to necessarily be *above* the stove.
It’s specified by national (US) bldg code, so it doesn’t depend on where you live.
